GE is looking to take on Walmart with its $2.2 trillion buyout of the grocery chain, which is expected to close in 2018.
GE will buy 50% of Walmart’s U.S. operations.
The company’s acquisition is expected close in the first half of 2019.
GE is already looking at other business areas, including the medical device and pharmaceutical industries.
Walmart, meanwhile, is trying to make inroads in emerging markets with its plans to expand its reach and build new brands.
